Illustrations for Timor-Leste National Accessibility Standards

Humanity Inclusion // France // 2026 ongoing

Creation of a series of illustrations explaining accessibility for the INGO Humanity Inclusion (HI) as part of a study Inclusion Technical Assistance carried out by HI for the Australian donor DT Global. The aim of this technical assistance was to support the government and civil society organisations in Timor-Leste, with the support of PARTISIPA, in developing national accessibility standards (for the built environment) and building the capacity of stakeholders in this field.

A black-and-white architectural drawing illustrating accessibility. A man in a wheelchair is crossing the road and a woman is walking, using a white cane to guide her.

The illustration work involved:

  • Explaining the technical requirements by conveying the key information;
  • Humanising these standards by depicting persons with disabilities in an accessible built environment; and
  • Adapting these visuals to the context of Timor-Leste.

Each illustration was created on the basis of outlines provided by HI, following approval of the design and the grey-scale colour palette, to make the standards booklet easier to understand and print.
